GUIDE TO CASTING SERPA SPELLS

Level 1

PRINCIPLES OF SERPA MAGIC

All spells are created and spoken in the language of gorgons, which is called Gorgonic.  The reason for this is because serpa use a branch of magic that is  less powerful, but related to gorgon magic.  You will need a Gorgonic dictionary to make your own spells.

  • Serpa must speak out loud to perform spells.

  • this type of spell casting is dangerous because it comes from dark magic.  No spellstone or channel of any type is used when casting dark magic spells.  Instead, the spell shoots out from a serpa's tail.  If residual magic builds up (which happens when spell casters don't channel their magic through spellstone) then the spell caster may go insane.  Serpa use the rattle on the end of their tail as a natural channel, which is somewhat effective.  However, if a serpa casts more than four spells in one day, then must roll 1d20 to see if they go insane.  If they roll 13 or higher, they stay sane.

  • Every spell works from broad to specific

Serpa spells contain 5 elements:

1. Invocation

2. Main Incantation

3. Secondary Incantation

4.  Pointers

5. Visualization

RULES OF INVOCATION

Every serpa spell starts with the serpa calling upon the magic within him/her to rise up for action. This is called the Invocation.  The following four words are alway used for the invocation:
strush = awake
squint = magic
sor = in
si = me

RULES OF MAIN INCANTATION

  • It is a description of the action that is desired.

  • It always comes second in the spell, right after the Invocation.

  • It is always a verb

  • It is always one word

RULES OF SECONDARY INCANTATION

  • name the object or objects of action

  • unless the object is a proper noun, the word is always spoken in Ishmerish

POINTERS

This is one or more describing words that direct the spell to a specific location on an object or determine the strength of spell.  Think of pointers as descriptive words that focus and define the spell.

  • Complex Spells contain many pointers.

  • The order of pointers is very important:

    1. Strength pointers always go last

    2. order goes from broad to specific

VISUALIZATION

You imagine what you want to make happen.
